In the wake of the latest government "crackdown" on benefit fraud, it's worrying to see some "Lib Dems" are believing the tabloid hype about claimants being feckless and fraudulent. Mercifully, Jennie is not among them; here she explains why tax evasion by the rich is a far bigger problem.

It is of course never okay to bully people the way that the Daily Mail pays writers to. It's a great thing we've got Jaekay around to shame them.

Proof that truth can be stranger than fiction, and reason to question the attitude of councils towards the local press who often are the only way to hold them to account. (In Hackney the Labour party holds 50 out of 59 seats so opposition within the council chamber is understandably easy to ignore.)

Mike Smithson points out a seriously dodgy misrepresentation of the results of a private YouGov poll about the Lib Dems commissioned by Ed Miliband's campaign but reported on by the Observer. Perhaps the job cuts at Guardian News and Media have also involved cutting journalists' common sense?
